Interview
Q: Mr. Kokopelli, you have produced what you call INNER WORLD MUSIC for the last 15 years. Please tell us more about your Music and what it means to you. K.K: INNER WORLD MUSIC is a World Music which invites to go on an inner journey to the heart. The heart is the source of everything. Just like all sound is born out of silence and returns to silence, everything is born from the One Love to which all returns. All information, all wisdom, all inspiration and all music comes from there. INNER WORLD MUSIC is a bridge between the worlds and different cultures. It reminds us that we are all related brothers and sisters of one family on the same home Planet and that we are just guests here for a limited time. War over resources and land which are just lend to us is a complete illusion. The message is Love. The message is Peace. World peace can only be there when we have come home into peace within ourselves. My music suggests and inspires that.
Q: You are performing world wide not just on Festivals and Concert Halls but also Universities and Conferences. Tell us more about your performance style. K.K: When I perform live I create organic soundscapes on which my audience journeys into the depth of Being. The soundscapes are woven from Native American Flute, Ceremonial Drums, Medicine Chants, Didgeridoo, Crystal Singing Bowls, Worldstick and many other ethnic instruments I picked up from 20 years of travelling to remote corners of the world. Like a magic carpet the soundscapes carry people into deep relaxation where naturally profound healing happens on different levels. Thats why I get often invited to medical conferences and healing arts events - because my music has this therapeutic effect. The INNER WORLD MUSIC productions in international recording studios have many different expressions though. One Heart - many faces - the Inner World Music of Kailash Kokopelli is one slogan we use. Production wise I fulfill my dream of a great band by inviting top artists into the studio. I go pregnant with all these songs and what can I do but deliver? They are all like different children with many different characters and want to be dressed in different musical garments. Some are very tribal, others more loungy or jazzy, some are funky and others quite sensual. My songs are hymns and prayers to the source of creation. They are wake up calls for the heart and spirit of one humanity as planetary citizens on Mother Earth. The songs want to remind that we are brothers and sisters of one human earth family and that we have the responsability to walk in peace and beauty on this sacred soil. We owe this to the children of our children and coming generations to establish world peace and harmony amongst the nations. World Music is a platform and model for this since many different cultures come together in the music to co-exist and co-create something beautiful in harmony and peace.
Q: Many of your songs have also specific movements, please tell us more about the Songdances K.K: Many of my songs have a simple repetative text and melody so they invite to emphasize the message by movement and dance. I dance the songdances often after a meditative performance to integrate and ground the audience in an active co-creative harmonization. Everybody can do it. It is simple and easy to pick up and a lot of fun to sing and dance together. We used to do this more often before TV locked us into our little isolated private cells. To sing and dance together is uplifting and empowering. The WALKING TREE is danced and sung worldwide in gatherings, festivals, schools, universities and kindergardens. I performed it in the Phillipines with 3000 students in Cebu, at Elvis first stage in Memphis during a peace event, with Native Americans in Canada and USA, Aboriginals at Uluru and Maoris in New Zealand. It is a song everybody loves no matter if you are young or old - thats the beauty of it. The strength lies in the simple things.
Q: Where do you want to go from here, what are your future plans? K.K: The path is unfolding by walking. Nobody knows what the future brings. The fruits we receive are from the seeds we planted though. I planted a lot of good seeds and it is harvest time soon. But the only thing which we truly have is this moment. The past is gone, the future not here yet. In this moment I am grateful to be alive on this amazing blue perl called Planet Earth. The more I step aside the more I can be an instrument for existence to sing and play through me. That is where I am going. My life now is about sharing these songs which want to be born through me. I am open to co-create music with other musicians who resonante with these songs and vision I carry. I am operating a lot in Scandinavia and intend to relocate my european base to South Sweden and working on building my international base in South Africa. Currently I am working on 3 different recording projects - very different from anything I have released so far. Something to look out for: my next album ARA which will be realeased end of 2007. Besides professional musicians to collaborate with I am looking for agents and managers who see the value in this and who are dedicated to bring this even further out to the people. Music is the food for the soul of the nation may the nation be fed and feed its musicians well. | >> listen
